Types of Briefs
Contractual:
- A contractual brief is a legally binding signed agreement between an employee and client that states the objectives the two parties agree to and if these agreements are broken by either employee or client the contract holder would be able to press legal charges.
- An example of this would be between an actor and film making company
Formal:
- A formal brief is a contract with detailed descriptions of what is required of the client. This form of briefing is usually straightforward so extra information is usually left out however this may cause confusion, therefore so if there are any issues with the content of the brief it is typically discussed during negotiations.
- An example of a formal brief is that it is typically used with a company of labourers in which the building is planned and negotiated.
Informal:
- An informal brief doesn't have to be a written document and typically it may even just be a conversation discussing the agreements of the contract between employer and client
Negotiated:
- A negotiated brief involves two or more companies or individuals in which all parties contribute towards the creation of the brief parameters as this is usually mutually beneficial and can help to prevent conflicting ideas.
- An example in which this brief would be used is between two media companies and one company do the artwork and models and the other do the contracting
Commission:
- A commission brief is usually used when a larger media company employs a smaller media company to produce a product.
Tender:
- A tender brief is when a client will advertise their brief and another company proposes a pitch to the client.
